Climax: The mermaids flee.
The story will be set on an is and where there are pirates from a 1,000 years ago.
The pirates which are on the island are gathering their stock together to go on a 3 week fishing trip.
Meanwhile, deep in the ocean waters, masses of mermaids and fish are swimming around having a great time when all of a sudden the water turns dark.
The pirate ship lurks over the water as they throw their rubbish deep into the sea,
The pirates laugh at each other feeling chuffed that they have polluted the waters and about to catch some fish.
As the netting pulls up, the mermaids who weren't caught swam for years and years until they found a water cave which was hidden from the maps, and stayed there for a 1,000 years. As the pollution of their home is so horrific they cannot live there any longer.
A young man comes along with his elderly father and they enter the cave to come across 2 mermaids who were shaking in fear since they have never seen a mermaid and only read about them in books, mermaids were known as a mythical creature.
The mermaids explain of their ancestors past and tell them about polluted waters, the young boy reassures the mermaids times have changed and that they will help them.
New laws was brought into place, no fishing anywhere in the world and if you was caught throwing rubbish into the sea you would be jailed.
Characters. Development - Keleigh McCarthy
Mel - Main Mermaid.
Her importance in my storyboard is to show that mermaids did once exist but humans actions with mistreating sea life and littering forced her and her family to flee.
She is a beautiful blonde mermaid with a pink tail and blue eyes, before she discovers all pollution being piled all over her house, she is very happy and loves to swim around with her friends.
She has a very positive attitude and is soon let down when she realizes that humans are dumping their litter into her home so she gets depressed and leaves with all her family and friends.
Her thoughts on humans are negative since they once knew her kind existed but they chose to forget about her and continue to litter.
She is an example of a feminist and wants to be taken seriously for not only being a female mermaid but because she does not believe that the men who want to rule the ocean and all the sea life within it, she wants the men to listen to her and stop treating the ocean badly because female mermaids live below the men's ships.
Pirate:
The pirate represents all human kind, even from thousands of years ago. To show the progression of all the damage humans are doing to the plant which effects everything on it.
He is an old-fashioned pirate with a hard wood boat and bandana with a eye patch, he sails all around the world for years and has nowhere to put all his rubbish and waste, so he dumps it all into the ocean.
He has a ignorant attitude towards sea life or any kind of life, he is very selfish and only will do what makes him feel happy.
His thoughts are very one sided, he only thinks of himself and does not care about the trouble he is causing for the mermaids.
He also does not care for the mermaids reactions to pack up and leave.
He is very sexist since he does not care that all the mermaids are females, he is a representation of the male gaze since he enjoys the look of the females but does not think their place is to be telling the men what to do and that men should rule the waters and that these females should stay below the ships.
Judge:
The judge who is apart of parliament has permissions to enforce a law in a court room that pollution in water is so horrific that laws need to be authorized and put into place to stop the death of innocent animals.
The judge is a stern faced woman who has flowing blonde hair, round glasses and is very intelligent and really cares for sea life and feels strongly against litter.
She also thinks about others closely and thinks through all her decisions she has to make.
Evaluation- nikki
For this subject, i chose to do my story board on pollution in waters from many years ago.
My main characters are a female and male mermaid who escape the oceans and go into hiding because pirates are polluting the seas they live in and only using the mermaids to be seen as sexual objects within the waters and think that they should be seen and not heard.
Many years later a young man and his mum notice how badly polluted the waters are and are noticing all the effects of man kind on sea life.
They see dead fish and a lot of rubbish sprawled out all over the sea floor and want to make a change, so they create a survey to be given to a judge to change laws with the parliament in the background as it was taken to court for a hearing.
Laws ended up being changed and the mermaids were free to live in open waters again.
I done many sketches trying to practice what I want to draw and to give me ideas if I want to change any ideas or features on my characters.
Also I done a brief description on my characters I want in my storyboard and writing about their purpose in the story and why they are significant to the idea as a whole.
Whilst trying to create my story board I found it very difficult to draw the story I wanted to create and found it hard to write in the speech bubbles since the space was limited.
I tried to include some feminist theories within my storyboard such as Laura Mulvey's ''Male Gaze''. And showing gender inequalities but then showing thousand of years later the differences such a female judge taking on a role which never was for a womam.
Overall, I do feel like my story board was somewhat successful and gets the story across that there is a big litter problem the world is facing and needs to be sorted out.
I do feel as if my story board is clear and informative on how badly the waters are polluted and shows the positive effects on the world as a whole if people stopped littering in the oceans.
